Our men’s 1st team travelled to Nottingham to take on National Premier League side Beeston in the cup.

Beeston, who last year won the National League play off championships last season, rested some of their top players and yet still fielded a side featuring 14 players with international caps at junior and/or senior level in England, Ireland or USA.

Hampton kept Beeston at bay for the first few minutes, and indeed nearly took the lead themselves, but after 4 minutes, Beeston found the goal with a rocket of a shot and the floodgates then opened.

Beeston ran out 25-0 winners. The scoreline though does truly not reflect the game, in particular the efforts the men put in against a very professional outfit who played some seriously slick hockey. Special mention should go to keeper Duncan McGuigan, who saved probably three times as many as he let in, and saved a flick!

Rather than write any more about the game, there’s some pictures in the gallery and we’ll let tweets from others do the rest of the talking:

@HamptonHockey Big credit to your boys today! They made it great fun to play in regardless of the scoreline and smiled through it all!

@HamptonHockey fair play for keeping the smiles on your faces and the banter levels up

Fair play to @HamptonHockey who kept going despite conceding 25 goals against @OfficialBeeHC. Got to love a open draw knockout competition

Here’s the two teams after the game – we’re proud that our boys are still smiling.
