It is with great sadness to announce that Derek Sears recently passed away.

Throughout his life, Derek was a keen hockey player, having started playing in the Air Force. He was Barnet Hockey Club’s First XI Captain in 1965 and continued playing and volunteering his time organising when he moved to the Midlands. He was a member of Hampton in Arden Hockey Club for over 20 years and was goalkeeper for whatever men’s team needed one! He later became Men’s Club Captain and President. Subsequently, he took on the role of Warwickshire Outdoor Competitions Secretary and President, before working with to England Hockey where he was one of the first Technical Delegates. He retired from his active involvement in hockey at the grand age of 80.

His funeral will take place on Monday 1st July 1200 at St Helen’s Church, St Helen’s Road, Solihull. All are welcome.
